Eating Disorder Survival Stories (10:00 pm - 10:00 pm)

Body image, eating disorders, and self-esteem affect all genders, races, ages, socio-economic positions, and body types. Join us during Provincial Eating Disorder Awareness Week (PEDAW) from February 1 - 7 to share your stories of survival and use your voice to spread awareness and help fight this illness.

We’re looking for community members who want to share their stories and struggles on their own terms. We’ll create a safe space for you to share through video, audio, or written word, named or anonymous. StoryLab staff will use your stories to create a video for sharing on social media.

Our goal is to support and encourage those who have suffered in silence to speak out about their experiences to promote awareness and education.

Interested?

Contact StoryLab at storylab@nvdpl.ca or call us at 604-984-0286 ex. 8139 to discuss your idea. We’ll help arrange an appointment for you to record in StoryLab.

Youth Leadership Program with ANIMO (12:15 pm - 1:30 pm)

This program, which is spread out over four consecutive weekly 1 hour 15 minute meetings, teaches youth about being leaders in their communities.

Ideally, by the end of the program youth have the skillset to begin a community initiative rooted in equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Week 1: Introductions, goals and agreements, leadership values, self-leadership.
Week 2: Qualities of a leader (I have a dream), bystander intervention, theories of change.
Week 3: Examples of discriminatory leadership, stereotypes, fostering inclusion, Indigenous principles of leadership (potential guest speaker - budget permitting).
Week 4: Community leaders and examples, ideation of an initiative, ideation to actualization, resources.

It is best if participants can commit to all 4 weeks as each session is important.

For grades 10-12 / ages 14-18.
